My Composite Process
My aim is to create uplifting visual stories with a sense of intrigue and wonderment. Providing just enough clues to begin the story, but leaving it open for you to take the story where you want it to go. As part of my arts practice, it is very important to me that every image used in my composite work is a photograph I have taken myself. Ultimately my work is a hybrid of traditional and contemporary art methods as I incorporate my own drawings, painting and prints into any digital textures used in the work and will often construct my own props and costumes as well.
My Inspiration
I find inspiration everywhere: a field of tall grass waving in the breeze, waves crashing on a rocky outcrop, rays of sun dancing through the trees. I love hunting for rich and unusual textures created through weathering or deterioration. I am fascinated by motion and the currents of air, visualising the invisible through its effect on a fluttering page, a rippling dress or a tendril of smoke. And I am intrigued with the reflections cast on silky water.
Living in beautiful Australia I am surrounded by gorgeous vistas; sparkling blue seas, lush tropical rainforests and our vast outback. These landscapes are integral components of my compositions.
My Models
My models play an integral part in my art process as figures are usually the centre point of the composition and the starting point for my story. While I photograph my fabulous models both in the studio and on location, none of them know exactly what environment they will turn up in once the composite is put together, ensuring they are just as surprised as everyone else.
